뉴질랜드는 농목업이 고도로 발달한 나라이며, 특히 양모·낙농품·육류의 생산과 수출이 경제의 뼈대가 된다. 양·고기소·젖소 등을 주로 사육하고 있으며, 양모·버터·육류의 생산량은 세계적이다.

뉴질랜드의 원주민. 뉴질랜드의 총인구 중 약 7.5 %를 차지하며, 말레이-폴리네시아 어족에 속한다. 남자는 얼굴에 정교한 문신을 하며 귀[耳]의 장식도 정밀하다.
